The 2014 ‘Faces of Affordable Housing’ banquet, held at the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square in April, featured the unique talents and compelling stories of HDC residents and their journey to affordable housing. WGAL-TV News 8 reporter and event emcee, Barbara Barr, led the enthusiastic crowd throughout the evening.
The event was well attended by 330 individuals who generously contributed more than $100,000 in donations. As HDC MidAtlantic strives to meet the growing demand for affordable housing, so does the need of generous financial contributions. As a nonprofit organization, financial support through sponsorships, ticket sales and donations is essential in continuing to provide safe, high quality housing.
The banquet marks HDC MidAtlantic’s opportunity to present the 2014 Affordable Housing Awards. Award winners included Dale Gravett, Executive Director of the Housing Authority of the County of Chester (Housing Advocate of the Year); Bill Hubbard, Community Manager at Saint Peter Apartments (Employee of the Year); Caldwell, Heckles & Egan, Inc. (Vendor of the Year); and Wheatland Federal Credit Union (Howard K. ‘Bud’ Kisinger Volunteer of the Year).
The event also included a ‘special ask’ by President Michael R. Carper, requesting attendees to provide additional funding to expand a community gardening effort at several general occupancy properties. A source of education, participation and enjoyment for young children and their families, the gardening program is providing an opportunity for residents to learn the basics of vegetable gardening, irrigation and cultivating crops.
Thank you to all the generous vendors, housing advocates, donors, employees and business associates who made the event a complete success!
