Housing Development Corporation MidAtlantic President Michael R. Carper announced today that Brian A. Hudson, Sr., Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA), will be honored as the Housing Advocate of the Year at the organization’s Faces of Affordable Housing Banquet on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at the Marriott at Penn Square in Lancaster, PA.
The Housing Advocate of the Year award recognizes a champion within the affordable housing community who often works quietly behind the scenes to impact the lives of residents who live in affordable housing while supporting the communities that step up to serve this most basic of all human needs—a safe, decent, affordable place to call home.
Hudson began his career at PHFA in 1975, rising to Chief Financial Officer prior to assuming his current position in 2003. He is Past President of the National Council of State Housing Agencies, Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh and Chairman of the Commonwealth Cornerstone Group. He is a member of the Board of the National Housing Trust and is a former member of the Consumer Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Board. Hudson is also a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Treasury Professional.
“Brian is the leading advocate in Pennsylvania when it comes to meeting the housing needs for those who have lower income or a disability, are veterans or ex-offenders,” said Carper. “His dedication to the affordable housing industry has helped thousands of families and individuals across the state and HDC MidAtlantic values his work and the work of PHFA. Through this award, HDC MidAtlantic chooses to honor Brian’s personal commitment to providing affordable housing.”
This year, the Lancaster County Community Foundation, the Mayor’s Commission to Combat Poverty and The Steinman Foundation have partnered to welcome Matthew Desmond, the bestselling author of “Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City,” as the featured speaker at HDC MidAtlantic’s Faces of Affordable Housing Banquet. “Evicted” offers an in-depth look into the relationship between landlord and tenant and explores the widespread effects eviction has on families, communities and the economy.
