Betty Koller

Betty Koller watched Southgate construction from a car in an adjacent parking lot. As the building went up she identified the window of the apartment she wanted.

When the applications were mailed out she called the post office and asked her mailman to deliver the mail to her early that day, and he did.

She was the first resident to move in and was able to secure the apartment she had watched through construction to completion.

Betty grew up in Reading and lived in the city all her life. Upon deciding to retire after working many years in personnel and payroll, she began looking outside of the city for something quieter. Her niece informed her of the new Southgate Apartments in Leesport. That’s when she started watching the construction from across the street.

Betty enjoys the quiet and convenience. “I couldn’t be happier anywhere. Everything is so nice here, so quiet, and still so close to everything.” She keeps busy by helping out in the property management office and calling Bingo on Thursdays. Her friends encouraged her to call the game even though she made it known she didn’t like Bingo. “Don’t tell anyone, but I secretly enjoy it now. Everyone gets along very well here. We enjoy each others company.”
